How To Help People At Christmas Time
admin | | Comments 0
The holiday season is not far off. Preparations should soon begin, all the hustle and bustle building into a big frenzy for just one day, Christmas.
For most folks, Christmas should overall turn out great. This will be the traditional turkey dinner with all the trimmings. There will be parties and events, shopping, family gathering, exchanging gifts, and holiday fun. It will be a wonderful time for most people.
For most people … yet not all people.
Life is pretty good for me, and frankly most of the folks I know are doing OK, but there are others who are not. There are some that struggle with daily life. This year, I decided to do something about it, do my part, as it were. After some consideration, I came up with some pretty simple things that one could do that would make a big difference for someone this year.
So how can you help someone at Christmas time?
Start a toy drive. This is as simple as letting everyone you know, friends, neighbors, and co-workers, how you are collecting toys for needy children. There are plenty of charities and organizations which would love to receive a few boxes of new toys just before Christmas.
Donate to the food bank. These days, every city and town sadly have one. Not only that, but most grocery stores provide large bins near the exits for food donations. It’s as easy as purchasing a few extra items each time you grocery shop, just tuck them into the bins on your way out.
Donate your time. Spending a few hours with an elderly resident of your local nursing home will do more for you than them! Who knows, you may enjoy it so much, it will become a regular habit. If this isn’t something you would want to do, there are many organizations crying out for volunteers.
So, there you have it, 3 simple ways to help someone at Christmas time. I’m sure you could think of many more if you set your mind to it. All it takes is a little effort, a few dollars, and a big heart! Sometimes, what seems like a little thing to us can make a big difference for someone else!
